Apple iPhone 6 vs Galaxy S6 Edge

People are raving about the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge ever since it was unveiled earlier this month at MWC 2015. With its stunning and innovative design, attractive color options, astonishingly clear screen and improved camera, the handset is certainly in the running to become this year's number one smartphone. But how will it fare against Apple's flagship, the iPhone 6? There's no denying that Apple's latest flagship is the best overall phone of 2014, as the iPhone 6 has a thinner body, a faster processor, and better cameras than its predecessors.

Design:
The iPhone 6 bears a lot of similarities with the original iPhone with its rounded design, though the iPhone 6 is flat and thin. It has a metal back and a glass front and it measures 5.44 x 2.64 x 0.27 inches and weighs 4.55 ounces. The iPhone 6 is available in silver, space gray, and gold.

The Galaxy S6 Edge looks modern and chic, with its rounded glass on the left and right sides of the phone. The phone has a more premium feel than previous Galaxy phones as it has an aluminium body. The phone measures 5.59 x 2.76 x 0.28 inches and weighs 4.66 ounces. It's available in White Pearl, Gold Platinum, Black Sapphire, and Green Emerald.

Features:
The Samsung phone wins when it comes to screen size and resolution. The Galaxy S6 Edge has a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and pixel count of 577ppi, whereas the iPhone 6 has a 4.7-inch screen with a resolution of 750 x 1334 pixels and pixel density of 326ppi.

The iPhone 6 is powered by an Apple A8 dual core processor and runs on iOS 8, while the S6 Edge has an Exynos 7 octa core chip set and runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop with TouchWiz interface on top.

The Samsung device has a 16MP rear camera and 5MP front facing camera, while the Apple phone has an 8MP rear camera and 1.2MP front shooter.

The S6 Edge lacks a microSD card slot, but it comes in comes in 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB variants. The iPhone 6 comes in 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB models.

iPhone 6S release date, price and specs rumours

With the launch of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in September 2014 Apple, for the first time ever Apple gave us two high-end phones and a real choice for consumers. With all of that success, we're all interested now in how Apple can follow this up with its next smartphones. Here we've rounded up all of the likely rumours about the handset, while we peel back the layers of half-truths and outright nonsense to find out what Apple really has in store for us.

Model                         Launch date

iPhone 4S                 September 12th 2011
iPhone 5                   September 21st 2012
iPhone 5S/5C                 September 20th, 2013
iPhone 6/6 Plus         September 19th, 2014

We definitely won't get a bigger battery
One of the things that we know for certain is that the iPhone 6S and, indeed, any future iPhone, will not get a bigger battery. Jony Ive, the iPhone designer, recently said that a bigger battery would make the iPhone less compelling. His argument is that the iPhone is so slim and light that people always use it; making it bigger and heavier to contain a larger battery would mean that people would use it less. Unless Apple dramatically increases screen sizes, making the overall iPhone case bigger, larger batteries are definitely out of the window. That's not necessarily a bad thing, as we've found that the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus lasted a lot longer than their predecessors, with the phablet easily lasting way over a day in normal use. Besides, if Apple can make its CPU more efficient, it will use less power, extending battery life without requiring a bigger battery. If you need a phone based purely on how long it lasts, our best smartphone battery life article will help you choose.

We may see THREE models: iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus and iPhone 6C
The success of the iPhone 6 and the larger iPhone 6 Plus, means that we're likely to both models get a refresh with the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. However, that leaves one gap in the market. At the moment, Apple also sells the iPhone 5S, which is just about the best and most powerful mini smartphone available. Come September 2015, though, and this handset will be two years old and getting on a bit.

The question is, will Apple replace this model with a newer 4in device, the iPhone 6C (potentially the iPhone 6S Mini)? Rumours initially said that the handset will use the A8 chip of the iPhone 6S and a similar, but smaller metal case (it won't be plastic as the iPhone 5C was).

Doubt has been cast on these initial rumours with Digitimes now reporting that Apple will release an iPhone 6C aimed at emerging markets. As expected, it will have a 4in screen and, to keep costs down, it will be made of plastic.

We're still not convinced by this one, as creating any new handset means starting a new production line, which costs a lot of money. Typically, when Apple has aimed at emerging markets in the past it has merely pushed one of its older handsets, where economies of scale and an existing production line have let it push the price down. This feels more likely to be the case going forward.

We wouldn't expect to see a smaller iPhone 6S available in the UK, either. With the stunning sales of the 4.7in iPhone 6, which most people agree is the perfect size, there seems to be little point in Apple releasing a slightly smaller handset. We'll stick our heads out and say that there won't be three new iPhones this year.

iPad Air 2 vs Surface Pro 3

Microsoft's Surface Pro 3 has a 12-inch, 2160 x 1440 multi-touch screen which is very bright and clear. Microsoft calls the Surface Pro 3 'the tablet that can replace your laptop'. It is very portable. It has a faster Core i7 processor, enhanced kickstand and a pressure-sensitive stylus.

The Surface Pro 3 is slightly bulky to use as a tablet and the kickstand is uncomfortable for use on your lap. The number of ports should have been more. Battery life isn't great and unlike the previous version, it does not come with free Microsoft Office.

Pros and Cons of the iPad Air 2:

At 6.3 mm thick, the iPad Air 2 is thinner and lighter than the iPad Air (7.3 mm). It has an extremely fast A8X processor. It has an awesome display and comes with Touch ID support and improved iSight and FaceTime HD cameras.

The iPad Air 2 is not much different from the previous iPad Air and the battery life is not great. It is quite expensive.

Specs:

The Surface Pro 3 has 4th Gen Intel Haswell Core i3/i5/i7 processor dual-core processor. It comes in variants of 64GB or 128GB with 4GB RAM and 256GB or 512GB version with 8GB RAM. It sports a 12 inch 1920 x 1080 (full HD) screen with 10-point multi-touch. It has Intel HD Graphics 4000 processor. It has stereo speakers with Dolby sound, stereo microphones and two 5MP front- and rear-facing HD cameras.

The iPad Air 2 works on A8X chip with 64-bit architecture and M8 motion coprocessor. It has a 9.7-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit widescreen Multi-Touch display of 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution. It features an 8 megapixel iSight camera and 1.2 megapixel front camera. It is capable of 1080p HD video recording (30 fps) and slow motion recording (120 fps). It sports Touch ID, a fingerprint identity sensor built into the Home button. It is available in silver, gold and space grey and comes in variants of 16, 64 and 128 GB.

Talking Points:

Microsoft is currently running a great deal on its Surface Pro 3 tablet. Interested customers can now save up to $150 off the price of a Surface Pro 3 and also get a free protective sleeve with their purchase.

The iPad Air 2 has been touted as the best tablet that one can presently buy. While there are plenty cheaper options available, the Air 2 still dominates with its state of the art design, performance and battery life.

Rumored Apple iPhone 7 delayed!

Many rumors surrounded the Apple company, as few reports came in that the Apple Inc. is planning to upgrade the recent smartphone that is the iPhone 6S for twice this year.

Apple never comments on pre-launch rumours, so attempts to predict its plans are necessarily speculative. Even so, many were surprised when the Stabley Times reported in February that the company was planning two iPhone upgrades this year in an attempt to boost sales of the Apple Watch, which was unveiled last week.

Apart from the single anonymous source quoted in the article, little evidence has emerged to support the theory, and most commentators now expect an iPhone 6S this autumn, followed by an iPhone 7 in 2016 – as per Apple's established product cycle.

"Apple fans, who are eagerly waiting for the release of the iPhone 7 will be upset as the flagship smartphone is very likely to be delayed by at least a year," says the International Business Times.

It cites a report by tech news site VentureBeat, which describes in detail the internal components of an Apple phone due to go on sale in 2016. This phone, believed to be the iPhone 7, will carry wireless modem chips from Intel, the report says.

However, it is unclear whether the iPhone 7 has been delayed or is in fact on schedule for a 2016 launch. The International Business Times report contains nothing to suggest that the phone was ever intended to go on sale this year.
